Effective Dec. 15, 2015, Alabama is required to verify the U.S. citizenship of all applicants under the Beason-Hammon Alabama Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act.
What does this mean to me?
If you’re applying for a license or renewing your license, you must submit documentation to prove your U.S. citizenship. This includes resident and non-resident Alabama applicants.
Can I submit my proof of U.S. citizenship today?
Submitting proof of Citizenship early is preferred. You must submit your documentation before the license will be renewed or issued.
What happens if I do not submit U.S. citizenship at the time of my application?
If the documentation is not received within 10 days after submission, your application will be declined. Any paid fees are non-refundable.
What happens after I submit my proof of U.S. citizenship?
Alabama must review all transactions requiring citizenship verification.
What types of documentation can I submit as proof of my U.S. citizenship?

- For Initial Application: All Individual Resident and Non-Resident Alabama applicants must submit proof of citizenship by using the following link: https://aldoi.gov/LicenseeCZ/Initial.aspx before their license is issued. This also applies to Amendments and Reinstatements.
- For Renewal Application: All Individual Resident and Non-Resident Alabama applicants who expire as of Feb. 29, 2016 or thereafter must submit proof of citizenship by using the following link: https://aldoi.gov/LicenseeCZ/Renewal.aspx before their license is renewed.
