Original Resident Application

State fees are usually non-refundable, unless requested and deemed appropriate.

Individual Applicants:

  1. If applying for "Independent Producer" authority, must also hold or apply for Producer License for one of the following lines of authority: Life, Health, Life and Health, Property, Casualty, Property and Casualty, Personal Lines.
  2. If applying for "Variable Contracts" authority must also hold or apply for Life or Life and Health authority.

Business Entities:

  1. Lines of Authority are not issued to business entities. The Business entity obtains authority through the individual producers affiliated to the entity.
  2. The designated responsible producer must hold a Maine license. Maine can only designate one DRLP in the licensing system. Please name only one responsible producer.
  3. Maine law requires a list of all affiliated producers, including state of domicile, and Maine license # (or SSN) in addition to a list of owners, partners, officers and directors.
  4. Sole Proprietorships are not required to be licensed in Maine.

Resident Renewal Application

  1. State fees are non-refundable
  2. Maine populates the issue date at the license level
  3. Maine licenses are perpetual. A new license will not be sent unless requested.
  4. Addresses will not be updated as part of the renewal process. If you entered a new address as part of your renewal, this will not be updated in your Maine record. A separate request must be submitted to the Bureau of Insurance. Address changes can be made through our website at www.maine.gov/insurance under Producer Services, Address Changes.
