STATE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
- Applicants requesting the Title line of Authority
- Resident applicants for a Surplus Lines License
- Nonresident applicants requesting a limited line of authority not issued by Maryland
- Variable : Must submit proof of Series 63, Series 7, or Series 6 to MIA. Fax documents to (410) 468-2399.
State fees will not be collected by NIPR (on behalf of MD) when a transaction is declined according to MD business rules. Transaction fees and processing fees will also apply. Violation of the following rules will result in a decline response.
- When entering license number on NIPR applications, please insert the prefix (alpha characters).
Example RPI 9998989 (please include the space).
- Applicant must not have an inactive Non Resident license in MD that has been inactive for less than one year.
- Applicant must be 18 years old or older as determined from the applicant’s Date of Birth.
- Non-Citizens who do not hold a U.S. Resident license cannot apply electronically.
- If making application to license class “Nonres Surplus Lines Indiv” or “Nonres Surplus Lines Firm” applicant should HOLD or simultaneously apply for BOTH Property and Casualty under license class “Nonresident Producer Individual” or “Nonresident Producer Firm”.
- Business Entity applicants - Each Designated Producer must hold an active license in MD.
- Business Entity applicants - Must be a Legal Business Type.
- 1 - Partnership
- 2 - Limited Liability Company
- 3 - Limited Liability Partnership
- 4 - Corporation
- A Trade Name Registration form must be completed by all
individuals interested in doing business under a name different from the
name that appears or will appear on their Maryland license. The form
may be downloaded from our website www.mdinsurance.state.md.us on
the Producer Services Download Documents page.
- A licensed firm must designate a licensed insurance producer to act as
its principal contact with the Maryland Insurance Administration.
