STATE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
- Michigan accepts electronic Resident License applications for individual applicants for major lines, limited lines and one Other LOAs.
- Applicants who are currently employed by, own stock in, are an officer or director of, or are in any other manner connected with a funeral establishment, mortuary, or cemetery cannot hold an insurance license in Michigan except the limited life license.
- Applicants for a Surplus Lines license must currently hold an active resident license for Property, Casualty or Accident and Health prior to applying for Surplus Lines
- Applicants may add an additional LOA to an existing active resident license
- Applicants who are non-citizen must provide proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.
- Applicant must be 18 years old or older as determined from the applicant’s Date of Birth
- Applicants are allowed to use P.O. Boxes for mailing addresses. A physical address is required in the residence/home address only.
- Upon answering any of the background questions with a “YES” response, please send
- a written statement explaining the circumstances
- a certified copy of the official document which demonstrates the resolution of the charges or any final judgment

• Applicant moving from another state to Michigan may apply for a resident license if they:
- Establishing legal residence within 90 days
- Surrendering previous state license within 90 days
