Original Resident Application

Every individual applicant for a North Dakota resident insurance producer license must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a resident or maintain his/her principal place of business in North Dakota
  • Meet the minimum age requirement of 18 years of age
  • Be trustworthy, competent, financially responsible and of good personal and business reputation
  • Pass the examination(s) for each line of insurance -- exams are administered by Pearson Vue -- preparation for the exam can be by classroom or by self-study -- exam scores are valid for one year after the date of the exam
  • Applicants for the line of Variable Life & Annuity must first be licensed with the North Dakota Securities Department

Every business entity applicant for a North Dakota resident insurance producer license must:

  • Have its principal place of business in North Dakota
  • Designate at least one individual principal insurance producer who holds an active North Dakota insurance producer license and who will be responsible for the business entity's compliance with the insurance laws, rules and regulations in North Dakota -- the designated responsible producer(s) must hold the lines of authority requested by the business entity

Fees: The license application fee is $100 and is non-refundable.

If the application contains a “yes” answer to any background question, an explanation and appropriate documentation must be submitted to the Department by fax at 701-328-4880 or email at ndlicensing@nd.gov . If documents contain more than 50 pages, please mail documents to the address below.
