STATE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
- Electronic applicants will not receive a refund for state fees if the application is declined.
- Electronic applications will only be issued for a 2-year license term.
- Please provide the transaction page/number along with supporting documentation to the state.
State fees will not be collected by NIPR (on behalf of RI) when a transaction is declined according to RI business rules. Transaction fees and processing fees will still apply. Violation of the following rules will result in a decline response.
- Individual applicants - Applicant must be 18 years old or older as determined from the applicant's Date of Birth.
- Non-Citizens of U.S. Must hold U.S. resident license.
- RI will allow reinstatements of a license if
- Status is not active
- Expiration date is >30 days and less than 365 days.
- Individual applicants - Applicant must enter NASD CRD number on application when applying for Variable.
- Individual applicants - Applicant applying for Variable must also apply for or have Life LOA.
- Applicant for Surplus Line Broker License type must hold or apply for Property and Casualty in RI.
- Applicants for Claims Adjuster Licensing: Non-resident applicants are exempt from taking the examination, if the applicant holds an active license in one of the reciprocal states. Please note that RI is only reciprocal with the following states: CT, ME, MI, NH, NC, OK, SC, TX, VT, WY. If the applicant DOES NOT hold an active license in any reciprocal state the applicant must take and pass the RI exam. Please email ldesilets@dbr.state.ri.us with questions pertaining to reciprocity.
- Applicants for Motor Vehicle Damage Appraiser Licensing: All applicants must take and pass the RI Appraiser exam. Please email ldesilets@dbr.state.ri.us with questions pertaining to appraiser.
