STATE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
- Business Entities: Business Entities must be registered with the SD
Secretary of State prior to making application for a Non-Resident License.
Business Entities will be declined if this registration is not in place.
- Designated Producer(s) are required to hold a SD NRL. The Designated
Producer(s) must hold lines of authority being requested by the Business
Entity.
- State fees will be collected by NIPR (on behalf of SD) when a
transaction is declined according to SD business rules. Transaction fees and
processing fees will also apply. Violation of the following rules will
result in a decline response.
- South Dakota will not accept paper filings after January 1, 2008.

years old or older as determined from the applicant’s Date of Birth.

- South Dakota will accept electronic applications from any NIPR authorized
business partner or directly from an insurer if the insurer uses the NIPR
Gateway.
- Business entities are not required, as a condition of licensure, to be
registered by the South Dakota Secretary of State. Business entities may be
required to register with the Secretary of State under their corporation
statutes. They may be contacted at (605-773-3537) or (www.sdsos.gov).
- Surplus Lines Licensing: No Business Entity can have a Surplus Lines
license – individuals only
