STATE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
- Individual applicants for a Surplus Lines License Class must currently hold an active Resident Producer License with VT for Property and Casualty Line of Authority for at least one year prior to applying for Surplus Lines.
- Residents of Guam, Virgin Islands and the American Samoa are not allowed to apply electronically & will need to submit a paper application. Retaliatory fees apply.
- All business entities must have at least one active DRLP. (Application verifies SSN and first 5 digits of last name from SPLD/PDB)
- Applicants may amend an active Resident License by adding additional classes/ LOAs if the classes /LOAs were once active but now inactive the applicant can amend within 2 years from the date of the inactivation of the LOA. *This pertains to an active RL License Class and LOA along with the inactive.
- Applicants who are non-citizen must provide proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.
- Applicant must be 18 years old or older as determined from the applicant’s Date of Birth
- Applicant must first apply or hold a Producer Life license to apply for Variable Life and Annuities Line of Authority. In addition to this requirement applicants for variable annuities must provide FINRA (Previously NASD) CRD number as well as be registered with the Jurisdictions Securities Department.
- Applicants adding an additional LOA to an existing active resident license must pass the required exam before applying for an amendment.
- Applicants moving from another state to Vermont may apply for a resident license if they are Establishing legal residence within 90 days.
- Canadian citizens not holding a Resident License in the United States must apply by submitting a paper application to the Vermont Department of Insurance. Retaliatory Fees apply.
- Producer Licenses expire on a common expiration date of March 31 of the Odd year. If you apply for a license now, you will pay the initial fees for a license that expires March 31, 2009. You will also receive an invoice for the renewal fee prior to the expiration date of that license. ALL producer license applications received electronic or paper at the Insurance Department AFTER March 1st, 2009 will not be issued effective until April 1st, 2009.
