    Whether you submitted your license applications to CDI online through NIPR.com, Sircon.com, or by paper through the mail, CLASS will enable you to check the status of your license applications.  
  • All individual applicants applying for a California license should disregard the 'Agency or Business Entity Affiliations' page within the uniform application.

  • If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. OR mail to California Department of Insurance, 320 Capitol Mall, Sacramento, CA 95814, email at LicDocuments@insurance.ca.gov, or fax at (916) 327-6907.

  • California licensees must complete and submit their own renewal application. As stated in section 1652(a) of the California Insurance Code, applicants must declare, under penalty of perjury, that the contents of the application are true and correct.

  • Section 1729.2 of the California Insurance Code requires a licensee to notify the department within thirty (30) days of the date the licensee learns of any change in their background information. For further clarification regarding this requirement, including the definition of background information, please refer to CIC 1729.2 or the California Department of Insurance website.

  • Criminal Conviction: For the purposes of the California application, you have been "convicted" if you were ever found guilty by verdict of a judge or jury; and/or ever entered a plea of guilty, nolo contendre or no contest. You must disclose all convictions, even if the charges were later dismissed or expunged, your guilty plea was withdrawn pursuant to Penal Code Section 1203.4, or you were placed on probation, received a suspended sentence or just ordered to pay a fine.

  • Driving Under the Influence: You must also disclose all driving related misdemeanors including, but not limited to, driving under the influence, reckless driving, driving without a valid license, or driving with a suspended or revoked license. If you fail to disclose all convictions, your application may be denied. You may exclude juvenile offenses tried in juvenile court."

  • Fingerprint Requirements:
    • License applications cannot be reviewed by the state until fingerprint impressions are submitted to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the results are received by the California Department of Insurance (CDI). After submission of the fingerprint card, please allow at least two weeks, for a response.  The fingerprint card is available from:
      • Law enforcement agencies (Police Department or Sheriff's office)
      • California Department of Insurance Producer Licensing Bureau
      • Business’ who specialize in fingerprint processing
         
    • To ensure the fingerprint card is recorded properly by the state, applicant must:
      • Enter Originating Agency Identification (ORI) number A0042 on the fingerprint card
      • Complete the Live Scan Request Form BCIA 8016 and the payment portion of the LIC 442-39A or include the fee indicated on the request form
         
    • To check on the status of your fingerprints contact the state first. If the department has not received them, you accessing DOJ's online Applicant Background Check Status service have your date of birth (i.e., 01/01/1975) and the10-digit Automated Transaction Identifier (ATI) number from the bottom of the DOJ form available. The ATI number always appears in the following sequence: 1 letter; 3 numbers; 3 letters and 3 numbers. Your birth date and your ATI number will allow the DOJ"s online Applicant Background Check Status to provide you with your fingerprint status.  If a license is not issued within twelve months of the date the fingerprints are submitted, a new set of fingerprint impressions will be required.

    • Fingerprint Exemptions: California non-resident applicants that were previously licensed as a Resident Insurance Producer in California and previously fingerprinted are exempt from this requirement.

    • There must be no serious:
      • Regulatory Information Retrieval System (RIRS) actions for the applicant, since last renewal.
      • 1033 actions for the applicant, since last renewal.
      • If so, please contact the state for assistance.
         
  • Applicant must be at least eighteen (18) years old as determined from the applicant's date of birth.

  • Applicant's name, SSN/ITIN/FEIN, Tax ID, license number, addresses, state of residence, and National Producer Number (NPN) must match current Producer Database (PDB) record for resident state.

  • Applicant's mailing address must be either his or her residence address or a personal P.O. Box.

  • Applicant must provide a valid country code and business email.

  • Variable Life and Variable Annuity applicants must hold an active Life license in the resident state.

  • Personal Lines applicants must not hold or be applying for apply for a Property and Casualty license and vice versa.es.

  • Burial and Funeral Expense applicants must not hold or be applying for Life license and vice versa.

  • Credit Insurance Agent applicants must submit the following items to meet the license requirements:
    • Fingerprint Impressions: Fingerprint impressions are required. You must call Accurate Biometrics at (866) 361-9944 to schedule an appointment to have your fingerprint impressions taken prior to submitting your application.  Fingerprint impressions will not be accepted from any other source. You must bring a copy of your Request For Live Scan Service, form LIC 442-39A to the site where your fingerprints are taken, have Accurate Biometrics complete their portion of the form, and submit the completed form to the Department with your application verifying your prints were taken.
    • Notice of Appointment:  The credit insurance agent must be appointed by an authorized insurer.  The insurer must sign a Credit Insurance Agent Notice of Appointment, Form LIC CI 20, stating that the insurer is satisfied that the named applicant is trustworthy and competent to act as its insurance agent limited to this purpose.  The insurer will appoint the applicant to act as its agent to transact credit insurance.

  • Rental Car applicants must submit the following items to meet the license requirements
    • Insurer Certification: A Rental Car Agent Notice of Appointment, form LIC RCA 3 must be completed by an authorized insurer certifying that the insurer has satisfied itself that the named applicant is trustworthy and competent to act as its insurance agent limited to this purpose.  The insurer will appoint the applicant to act as its agent to transact rental car insurance.

  •  Self Service Storage Agent applicants must submit the following items to meet the license requirements:
    • Insurer Certification:  A Self-Service Agent Notice of Appointment LIC SSA 2 must be completed by an authorized insurer certifying that the insurer has satisfied itself that the named applicant is trustworthy and competent to act as its insurance agent limited to this purpose. The insurer will appoint the applicant to act as its agent to transact self-service storage insurance.

    • When amending license or adding lines of authority (LOAs), an applicant can only be granted a one (1) year license if they are in their second part of their two (2) year cycle (i.e., half way through or only have one (1) year left before their renewal).

  • Cancel/Surrender a License

  • Clearance Letter: If another state requires that the licensee provide a letter of clearance, in California the licensee can submit a clearance letter request that will cancel the license when the clearance letter is issued.
