Renewal Period (Individual)

License Class Renewal Period Begins Renewal Period Ends
Insurance Producer Sixty (60) days prior to expiration date. Triennially on last day of birth month.

Please check Announcements for any last minute notifications about the states to which you are applying.

Business Rules (Individual)

Applicant's name, birth date, license number, state of residence, Tax ID, and National insurance producer Number (NPN) must match current Producer Database (PDB) record for resident state.

Applicant's mailing address must be either his or her residence address or a personal P.O. Box.

Applicant must provide a valid country code and business email.

Applicant may not renew a license in their own resident state.

Applicant cannot late renew an inactive license. Applicant must reinstate or reapply through NIPR’s Non-Resident License (NRL) Application.

There must be no serious:

  • Regulatory Information Retrieval System (RIRS) actions for the applicant since last renewal.
  • Special Activities Database (SAD) actions for the applicant since last renewal.

If so, please contact the state for assistance.

If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.

Iowa does not have a grace period on license renewals. License reinstatements can be processed for up to twelve (12) months past the license expiration date by reapplying through NIPR’s electronic Non-Resident Renewal (NRR) process and paying a late fee.

Late renewals are not allowed for Business Entity Producer license type. After expiration date, Business Entity Producers must apply through Resident License (RL) Application.

Late renewals only apply to Third Party Administrators up to one (1) year past expiration date.

Iowa does not have a grace period on license renewals. License reinstatements can be processed for up to twelve (12) months past the license expiration date by reapplying through NIPR’s electronic Non-Resident Renewal (NRR) process and paying a late fee. Late renewals only apply to business entities with the third party administrator (TPA) license class. All other applicants must submit an application for a new license through Non-Resident License (NRL).
