NIPR Announces 2019 New Board Members
Vice President also Elected to Board
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Feb. 12, 2019) — The National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR) announced
its new board members and director for 2019 during its
winter Board of Directors meeting in January.
Kentucky Insurance Department Commissioner Nancy Atkins
has joined NIPR’s board.
“When it comes to supporting regulatory compliance through
NIPR’s technology, Commissioner Atkins’ experience will
provide immeasurable service to the NIPR Board of
Directors,” said Karen Stakem Hornig, NIPR CEO.
Atkins was appointed Kentucky Insurance Commissioner in
May 2017 and is a 33-year veteran of the insurance
industry, working as both a licensed agent and employee
Nick Gerhart, former Iowa Insurance Commissioner and
current Chief Administrative Officer of Farm Bureau
Financial Services, will serve as the newly merged trade
association American Property and Casualty Insurance
Association (APCI) representative on the Board.
The Board elected David Leifer, American Council of Life
Insurers (ACLI) Vice President and Associate General
Counsel, as its Vice President for the year.
“The leadership and expertise of Nick Gerhart and David
Leifer will be a valuable asset and critical component to
our success for the coming year as we look for ways to
continually improve our service to regulators and
producers,” said Stakem Hornig.
Their terms are effective immediately.

NIPR is a not-for-profit affiliate of the National
Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). Governed
by a Board of Directors representing the NAIC and the
insurance industry, the organization was established as
a public-private partnership with the goal of
streamlining the producer licensing process.
