Travel Licenses
The Connecticut Insurance Department now issues two types of travel licenses:

Producer Limited Lines Travel – generally for individuals or business entities who sell, solicit or negotiate travel insurance. (Limited Lines Travel authority and credit have been restored to all standard lines licenses.)

 

License Fee:     $140.00
Renewal Fee:    $160.00

PA 187-17 Travel (New) – entities operating using designated travel retailers. This is a new type of license created under Public Act 187-17 and became available October 1, 2017.

 

License Fee:      $750.00
Renewal Fee:     $650.00

Business Rules (Individual)

Applicant must renew license before amending.

Applicants applying for the Variable Life and Variable Annuity LOA must supply FINRA CRD number on application.

Applicants applying for Insurance Producer Variable Life and Variable Annuity must actively hold or apply for Insurance Producer Life.

Applicants applying for Fraternal Agent Variable Life and Variable Annuity must actively hold or apply for Fraternal Agent Life.

An affiliation is not required, and the applicant may proceed past the "Affiliations" page on the uniform application.

Insurance Producer and PA 187 Travel applicants that have been inactive for more than one year past expiration date may reinstate through (NRL) application.

Casualty Adjuster, MVPD Appraisers, Public Adjusters, Certified Insurance Consultant, Fraternal Agents, Premium Finance Company, Reinsurance Intermediary Broker, Reinsurance Intermediary Manager and Surplus Lines applicants may reinstate the day after expiration date through (NRL) application.

Casualty Adjuster applicants cannot apply for more than one line of authority within license class on the same application.

Applicants applying for Surplus Lines must actively hold both single lines of Property and Casualty under insurance producer license class prior to submitting the Surplus Lines Broker application.

Casualty Adjuster, MVPD Appraiser, Third Party Administrator, Public Adjuster, PA 187 Travel, Certified Insurance Consultant, Certified Insurance Consultant, Fraternal Agents, Premium Finance Company, Reinsurance Intermediary Broker, Reinsurance Intermediary Manager and Surplus Lines applicants cannot enter 'Doing Business As" (DBA) name.

Please note that applying solely for a Travel license will incur a fee of $750.  If unsure if you are to apply for this license, please refer inquiries to Licensing Division at: cid.licensing@ct.gov before proceeding.

Reinsurance Intermediary Brokers and Reinsurance Intermediary Managers will need to complete required forms. Send completed form to: cid.licensing@ct.gov. Please direct Reinsurance Intermediary Broker and Reinsurance Intermediary Manager  questions to cid.licensing@ct.govAttn: Reinsurance Application. Your application information will be reviewed and processed by the Connecticut Insurance Department. Most applications will be processed within 7-10 business days. You will receive email notification from the State once the LICENSE has been APPROVED. Check for your approved license at:  www.ct.gov/cid.  Under "General Information," select Verify and Print a License." 

With the exception of 'other' lines, applicant must have an equivalent active resident license when applying for a non-resident license.

If applicant responds "yes" to one of the background questions please submit supporting documents electronically via NIPR's Attachments Warehouse. The documents may also be submitted to the state via mail, email, or fax.

At least one (1) Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP) must have an active resident or non-resident license in Connecticut.

Insurance producers, Surplus Lines, Casualty Adjusters, MVPD Appraisers and Public Adjusters require at least one active Designated Responsible Licensed Individual to hold same license type but do not require lines to match.

active Designated Responsible Licensed Individuals are not required for Third Party Administrators, Premium Finance Companies, Reinsurance Intermediary Broker and Reinsurance Intermediary Manager

All Third-Party Administrator applicants must provide complaint contact information.

Third Party Administrator applicants must submit documentation to the Connecticut Insurance Department as required by Connecticut Public Act 11-58 38a-720. Surety bond amount is $500,000. Attachments for "Yes" responses to questions 1-5 should be attached to the NIPR Warehouse. All other attachments should be scanned and emailed to: cid.tpa@ct.gov.

Premium Finance Company applicants will need to complete required forms. Send completed forms to: cid.financial@ct.gov. Premium Finance Company Questions can be directed to Ken Cotrone (860) 297-3994. Business Entities must complete Power of Attorney Corporation or Power of Attorney LLC Form AND Premium Finance Initial or Reinstatement Form.
